Marine plywood is a purpose-built structural plywood for use in a range of marine applications. With an assigned stress grade of F14 and manufactured with two A grade veneer faces, this product is ideal for shaping the hull of a boat due to its grading of the veneers.
Contrary to popular belief, the glue used in Marine plywood is the same glue used in external and structural plywood, so the key to Marine is not the glue used in the plywood but the quality of the timber. Marine ply uses the best grade of timber veneers to produce the plywood A grade Veneers front and back and very high grade veneers internally that means there are no internal voids preventing any blows and holes when cutting. A favourite of the joinery industry.
Both faces of the Marine ply will be of very high quality with little to no defects in either face. No face patches / putty will be used in either face. As the adhesives used to bond the layers are the same as used on standard plywood sheeting, we still strongly recommend painting and / or sealing the edges to minimise moisture ingress and maximise the products’ longevity as it is no more “waterproof” nor externally suited than standard non marine plywood. The product can be painted or clear finished on both surfaces and provides an excellent base for paints, varnishes, and high gloss finishes.
